All patients at each health centre are seen by appointment except in genuine emergencies.
To make an appointment please telephone or call at the relevant health centre during their normal opening hours. If your doctor is away on leave you will be offered an appointment with another member of the Practice. If your problem is particularly pressing we will always see you on the same day. Every afternoon one of the duty doctors at St Thomas will see urgent cases whose conditions cannot wait until the following day.
The Partners usually arrange to cover each other for short periods of leave. On occasions we will employ an additional locum doctor for extra sessions.
A stacking system works for incoming calls to be answered. If you phone and obtain the engaged signal it is worth phoning back a few minutes later.
Our nursing sisters may be seen by appointment, both morning and afternoon, in the Treatment Room. They deal with such things as cervical smears, minor surgery, contraceptive advice, injections, dressings and ear syringing, removal of stitches and advice on vaccinations for foreign travel.
We also have specially trained Practice Nurses who hold Same Illness Clinics each morning and afternoon. They are able to treat patients with acute minor illnesses. If the receptionist is unable to give you an appointment with your GP if it is appropriate she will offer you an appointment in one of these clinics.
If you need to cancel your appointment please do so in as much time as possible, so as to allow us time to offer your appointment to someone else.

At St Thomas Health Centre as part of our continuing service to improve your Health Centre, we now have a:
Same Day Illness Clinic
This Clinic is manned by a GP and Nurse Monday to Friday 8.30am - 12.00 noon.
Appointments will be available from 9.00am - 11.30am.
The Duty Doctor and Nurse will triage calls and allocate an appropriate appointment with either the Duty Doctor or Nurse in this Clinic or with the patient’s own GP within 48 hours.
This new service does not affect in anyway the other services that we offer at St. Thomas Medical Group.
This Clinic is solely for patients needing to be seen the same day and we will be unable to see patients for management of on-going or long standing problems or issue repeat prescriptions.
Please enquire at reception.
Our telephone lines and Reception area are really busy first thing in the morning with patients wanting to make appointments. It would be really helpful if you could wait until after 10.00am for the results of any test or for any general administration enquiries. Thank you for your co-operation.
For more information on telephone advice please download the information leaflet.
If you require a home visit from your doctor, please ring the relevant health centre before 10.00am giving us some idea of the nature of the problem, as this helps the doctor to plan his or her rounds.
WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST HOME VISITS via the ONLINE APPOINTMENT REQUEST.
